pleasure & pain

Last week we had a photographer take our first lot of professional photos. It was a great opportunity! Alas, I had some problems with my partner/model, which we've since sorted out. I was not happy with my end result, but whats done is done and here is the final result (I snagged these pics from the Photog's link) let me know what you think. (p.s take a guess which pic has been airbrushed)

pretty on the outside

2 weeks of photographic makeup class have flown by. We're learning that everything we've learned previously doesn't apply to photographic and we get to play with colour, texture, textile, any medium you want to use to basically apply to a face. So we had a task, we were given fashion pics of a model, without a head. Then we had to design our face, according to what we imagined would go with the outfit. My picture was a very pale model in a pretty, vintage, lacy outfit.
My partner wasn't the friendliest of people (as you can prob tell) but she had one of the easiest faces I've worked on, great eyes, full lips and good cheek bones. She had some mild acne which covered up well with a very small amount of liquid mineral foundation & concealer. Then Mac studio fix powder sponged over the face.

When I got to see the head of my picture at the end, my job was basically the same, except the model had darker pink lips than mine.

Pin Up

My lovely friend Janine, kindly let me use her to practice on :) A few drinkies and some patience (on her behalf!) and I got to practice something I hadn't done before, a Pin Up style, was lots of fun!

The mission

Last week I worked on Sharon, it was a practice for our final assessment which is next week. These are the steps we need to take for it

• Assess client skin condition, type and face shape


• Remove makeup, cleanse tone moisturise


• Colour corrector


• Light layer of foundation - create Day Look


• then add more foundation, additional eye/cheek/lip colour for Business Look


• then glam up the eyes a bit more, add anything else needed for an Evening Look. Our teacher marks us on our skill & intereacton, and the final result of each look.

I dont think there's been one class yet where I left going, hell yeah I'm awesome - I hope to get that confidence & skill soon! I have a bunch of friends coming over this weekend to practice on, a makeup day! Should be fun :)

Sweet Lavender

This week we had a test! It was on facial muscles, I got one question wrong, damn it!
Anyway then we just had a free run with our partner, we got to pick whatever makeup style we wanted from what we've learned. So I just did young Bec's makeup for evening/going out :) Next week is a practice run for our final assessment which will be doing a day look - converting to business - converting to evening.

Blushing brides

Last week we had another crack at Bridal makeup, this time with the Lash clusters. I worked on the lovely Savannah. She has a monolid so was important not to make her top lid too dark, or it would close her eye up. She is a very pretty girl though, so doesn't require much work!

Foundation is Mac NC30. Mixed neutral & shimmer eyeshadows, I did use a gold shimmer in the corners of her eyes, but you'd never know looking at these pics. Blacktrack eyeliner + 3 lash clusters on each eye. I mixed up her lip colours so not sure what colour that is, then highlighted and contoured.

Pace is the trick

Tonight's class was our first taste of Bridal makeup. It was more or less, testing the water to see how far we could go with colour etc, and what not to do. It was a bridal trial, so no false eyelashes etc. Next week we go full hog, as if we are doing a real bride - scary! Below is my partner Leah, once again after seeing the pics, I can judge and see where I am going wrong, I really need to stand back and look at my work with a better eye.

Does anyone know what settings etc I need my camera on to make the pictures pop? The lighting in the classroom is crap for taking pics!

In the Navy!

Class last night, I was ITCHING to get started. It was our first night we got to experiment with a bit of colour, for an Evening look. I was put into a threesome again, my bad this time as I was 5mins late. But unlike last time I did get a whole face to myself ;) I only did eyes though, due to lack of time. Luckily my girl had a pretty good face of makeup on so it was just a matter of taking off her eye makeup, concealing the eyes and getting some colour on them. When I started applying the navy blue colour to her eyelid, I just said to her "oh man what am I doing!?" but after not too long, I was done and pretty happy with the result. Looking back I know a few things I'd change. Also, I think I need to dumb down the shimmer shadows (to be more age appropriate) what do you think?

I have used Mac Indigo eye Pencil on half of the eyelid and smudged/blended that, then pressed in a navy blue shimmer shadow. Used a lighter blue in the middle of the lid, then a soft bronze in the corner, shading it out over the blue. Ebony eyeliner pencil on lower lashline with gold shimmer in the corner of the eyes and along lower lash line.
