Freaks & Geeks

Ok, I'm a geek, but honestly one comment like this puts a rad big smile on my face. This particular makeup artists work and wise words helped motivate me into learning makeup! I won't go on as the proper shoutout will come ;)

The mission

Last week I worked on Sharon, it was a practice for our final assessment which is next week. These are the steps we need to take for it
  • Assess client skin condition, type and face shape

  • Remove makeup, cleanse tone moisturise

  • Colour corrector

  • Light layer of foundation - create Day Look

  • then add more foundation, additional eye/cheek/lip colour for Business Look

  • then glam up the eyes a bit more, add anything else needed for an Evening Look. Our teacher marks us on our skill & intereacton, and the final result of each look.

I dont think there's been one class yet where I left going, hell yeah I'm awesome - I hope to get that confidence & skill soon! I have a bunch of friends coming over this weekend to practice on, a makeup day! Should be fun :)

Internationalist

My order from Sephora arrived about 2 weeks ago. It was a bit of a mission to get the products and quite costly as Sephora don't deliver to Australia. All the products my fellow bloggers and tweeters write about & review I just want to get my hands on, but what you can get in the states is just not readily available here, and if they are they are SO expensive.

For example. Stila all over shimmer liquid luminizer is $22 US which converts to $25.40 AUD. In Australia at MECCA Cosmetics (poo poo!) they charge $60 for it!! It makes me so mad. I am yet to get the pleasure of trying any Stila cosmetics!
So the purchases I managed to get from Sephora, through PriceUsa (they have an agent in the States that purchase items for you then post them to Australia, this works out to be quite a mission & costly, I am unlikely to use that website again)

Tarte's Lights Camera Lashes - I really love this mascara! It's healthy food for your lashes, the colour is buildable, the brush is lovely and delicate, the packaging is amazing (purple faux snakeskin case) the product does not flake or feel chunky on the lashes

Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet+ liquid foundation - I love the way it goes on and feels on the skin, it seems great for an oilier skin which will be better for me in Summer. I thought this was going to have a very full coverage, I may need to try with a powder though.

Smashbox Rescue Beauty - Photo Op Under Eye Brightener, Photo Finish Primer, Moisture Rich Lip Gloss, O-Glow, Illuminating Serum, Fusion Soft Lights in Baked Starburst, Eye Shadow Quad in Bright Eyed - which friggin smashed in the box! The O Glow cheek colour is my favourite. If anyone knows of an easier way for me to get the products I oh so desire from overseas, please let me know.

Sweet Lavender

This week we had a test! It was on facial muscles, I got one question wrong, damn it!
Anyway then we just had a free run with our partner, we got to pick whatever makeup style we wanted from what we've learned. So I just did young Bec's makeup for evening/going out :) Next week is a practice run for our final assessment which will be doing a day look - converting to business - converting to evening.

Video stars

A lot of my friends are always after makeup tips & how to's. I have found you the answer!
Video tutorials. Now this is by no means a new thing, derr has anyone heard of YouTube? But after blogging for a little while now, I have come across some wonderful makeup artists who are talented and post very informative tutorial videos of themselves applying makeup step by step. Here is my favourite :

Pixiwoo - makeup artist sisters Sam & Nic are extremely talented! Under the name Pixiwoo they have a blog & youtube channel which is one of the most successful beauty youtube channels around, you should check it out.

Samantha Chapman
My favourite though is their website fashionface.tv it's very informative, with tutorials on many makeup styles ranging from all eras to different celebrities to current trends and also has the basic How To videos all there for you to watch and learn.

Enjoy!

Blushing brides

Last week we had another crack at Bridal makeup, this time with the Lash clusters. I worked on the lovely Savannah. She has a monolid so was important not to make her top lid too dark, or it would close her eye up. She is a very pretty girl though, so doesn't require much work!

Foundation is Mac NC30. Mixed neutral & shimmer eyeshadows, I did use a gold shimmer in the corners of her eyes, but you'd never know looking at these pics. Blacktrack eyeliner + 3 lash clusters on each eye. I mixed up her lip colours so not sure what colour that is, then highlighted and contoured.

When we were young

I loved these cool chicks when I was a kid. I was born in '82 so caught the back end of the 80's and cranked the 90's. Back then, they ruled.

Barbie -wow I still love her! I have kept all of them, including this one
Dream Date Barbie

Punky Brewster, the coolest kid ever!

The Bangles, Susanna Hoff - still hot!
Madonna, oozed cool, not so much now. I wish she never changed.
Wendy James from Transvision Vamp, sexy & cute with great pipesRainbow Brite, take me to Rainbow Land!
Kylie Minogue, every young girl wanted to be her. That changed for me when I turned 10

Jem & The Holograms - Truly truly the best cartoon ever. I still love itKelly, Brenda, Donna. Need I say more?
my favourite 90's supermodels, Linda, Christy & Cindy (front row)
